Hammered Dulcimer Joy
6-week class Wednesdays 1 pm MDT to begin January 19th.
Focusing on good technique for accuracy and speed with both hands we develop facility, accuracy and confidence with our fingers playing independently and interdependently using exercises that sound musical.
(Includes a digital & physical copy of the Book/CD Hammered Dulcimer Joy)
A step-by-step progressive approach yields the "stickiest" learning.
Screen to Screen Zoom Class, PDF handouts, .mp3 files for priming the pump and reinforcement, archive videos of classes each week.
11 am MST = 10 am PST = 12 noon CST = 1 pm EDT = 5 pm UTC
Exploring Arranging Ideas
These 30 exercises also let us explore new arranging ideas which we can transfer to other songs and tunes we play.
Our text is Hammered Dulcimer Joy
Building on Beethoven's Ode to Joy, these 30 exercises let us develop our skills while exploring arranging possibilities with exercises that sound musical while also being mechanical. The physical and digital copies of this book/CD are included in the registration fee.
Hand Separation, Hand Independence
These exercises help us build accuracy, confidence and facility with playing independently and interdependently.
Steve Eulberg has over 38 years of experience
discovering, playing and teaching hammered dulcimer. He earned a Master of Music Education from Boston University with a goal of teaching traditional music on traditional instruments.
Sign up for 6 weeks of intensive learning from the comfort of your own home.
You get:
- A weekly live 50-60 minute class taught by Steve
- Practice assignments each week
- Handouts provided as .pdf files
- Video archives of each lesson
- Interaction with other students
You need:
- The desire and commitment to learn and grow as a mountain or hammered dulcimer player
- An internet connected device equipped with a webcam and microphone (most laptops, tablets, and smart phones work).
- An email address
How it works:
When you register, you will receive access to the Class Resources page which will have the link to join a Zoom meeting. Click that link to attend the class each week. Zoom allows everyone to see each other throughout the class, so you can play along with Steve as he teaches. Student microphones will be muted unless they are asking a question, so you will only hear Steve’s audio. The entire class will be recorded and sent to all registered students, along with handouts for the following week, at the conclusion of each class.
42 days develops the habit of playing accurately and interestingly daily.
The exercises are grouped together in 6 groups by common characteristics (one group per week).
The traditional way of learning is...
knee to knee or in our case, screen to screen.
Students will receive .mp3 sound files to listen before class to the tunes we'll be learning, together with the reinforcement of written tablature.
Finally, a video archive of each week's session is provided to students as well.
The Dulcimer Community is welcoming....
This course gives you the skills to enter into jam sessions of traditional music and strum along with enthusiasm and joy!
